They live in Brussels and, more generally, in Belgium. Whatever their place of origin or personal history, together they form a brilliant mosaic of languages and cultures.
This plurality, this intermingling of identities, these extraordinarily diverse cultures, are an undeniable source of wealth. Culture, or rather cultures, are essential for bringing people together. They are plural and interact constructively, acting as relays and interfaces between art and society.
It’s this original context, this mix, this vitality, this coexistence of cultures that photographer Raymond Dakoua attempts to capture through his photographic research.
Following the success of a first exhibition featuring the inhabitants of the area around Rue Van Aa, it seemed obvious to us to propose the exercise to a photographer from the same area:

Adopted by Brussels for over two decades, Raymond looks at the permanence of traditions as well as the evolution of cultures and social life. The photographer’s eye covers a wide range of subjects concerning man and his social, political, ecological, religious and geographical situations.
Having graduated in Photography from the Agnès Varda school in Brussels, this resolutely committed photographer offers, through his singular work, an authentic, uncompromising yet deeply sensitive and personal reading of everyday life as it encounters the world.
His approach is always at the confluence of photojournalism, a human approach and a visual approach, a certain reality that he wants to explore and make us feel through his multi-faceted work.
